Scarlett Johansson has reported called for “extreme action” to be taken to tackle the famine crisis sweeping across the Horn of Africa.

“The scale of poverty in Dadaab (refugee camp) is overwhelming. I met countless women like Hawa, a local community leader, who lamented the seemingly endless struggle of the Somali people, as refugees of war and starvation and now left to suffer everyday life with the very barest of essentials.
”This is a longterm and escalating crisis exacerbated by political conflict, famine and drought that can no longer be ignored. Over half the Somalis that have died are children; an entire generation lost.
“This is no longer an issue that can only garner some attention, some of the time. Extreme action must be taken by the global community now.”
Scarlett Johansson Responds To Marine’s Invitation
Scarlett Johansson is the latest celebrity to respond to an invitation to the Marine Corps Ball on 10th November – but it’s not good news for Sgt Dustin L. Williams. The actress took a page out of Betty White’s book and turned down the sergeant’s request.
In the most creatively produced video yet, Williams was filmed pulling on his army uniform and striding around the barracks before asking the “beautiful” actress to the ball. However, in a statement to Zap2It.com, the ‘Lost in Translation’ star said, “I feel incredibly honored to have been invited to the Marine Corps Ball by Sgt. Dustin L. Williams. Not only does Sgt.
Williams deserve recognition for his bravery, selflessness and dedication to the United States and its people, but he also displays a cheeky talent for film making”. Johansson noted that due to “prior commitments” she was unable to attend the event, but added,
“I am sending you a case of Moet & Chandon with gratitude”. Scarlett‘s response comes after Mila Kunis agreed to partner Sgt. Scott Moore to the ball after he filmed a video request and posted it on YouTube. The 19 second clip has received over 3 million views since it was first uploaded on 7th June 2011.
